Billion of people in various regions around the world were fortunate to witness the partial solar eclipse that occurred on October 25.
The partial solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes in front of the Sun, partially obscuring it (as viewed from Earth). The event on October 25 was the last eclipse of 2022 and the largest partial solar eclipse of the decade in terms of the number of people who could see it. It is estimated that up to 3.2 billion people live in areas within the path of the Moon’s shadow, representing about 40% of the world’s population. The eclipse on October 25 began at different times depending on the observation location, with the earliest at 8:58 AM on October 25, reaching its peak at 11:00 AM, and concluding at 1:02 PM Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), which translates to 3:58 PM – 6:00 PM – 8:02 PM in Hanoi time. During the solar eclipse event on October 25, the path of the Moon’s shadow began from the eastern part of Greenland and all of Iceland, sweeping across most of Europe (except Portugal and parts of western/southern Spain), northeast Africa, and much of western/central Asia. Unfortunately, Vietnam did not have the opportunity to witness this phenomenon. A beautiful partial solar eclipse was viewed from the capital Beirut, Lebanon. (Photo: AFP)
