Yesterday (June 29), Microsoft launched Internet Explorer 7 Beta 3. This is the final test version before the official release later this year.
The browser developers stated that IE 7 Beta 3 includes several enhancements compared to the “feature-complete” Beta 2 version.
“Throughout the development of Internet Explorer 7, Microsoft has actively encouraged and listened to feedback from customers,” said a Microsoft spokesperson. “The result of this work is that IE 7 Beta 3 has several feature changes in addition to improvements in security, compatibility, and reliability.”
Some notable minor changes to the user interface include the ability to add an “email button” to the toolbar, the ability to organize tabs with a “drag-and-drop” function, and the ability to scroll vertically in zoom mode.
The browser’s RSS support feature has also been upgraded, adding the function to “mark all items as read” and the ability to update RSS feeds on demand.
The IE 7 Beta 2 testing yielded results showing better compatibility with websites and web applications. Several issues related to page rendering have also been resolved. Importantly, all security updates have been incorporated into Beta 3.
Dean Hachamovitch, Microsoft’s program manager for Internet Explorer, stated that the next step will be the release of Release Candidates around the end of summer this year. This version will be a pre-official version before the official release later in the year.
