The struggle for survival between a hyena and a lion was captured by tourist Nelson Cruz at Kruger National Park in South Africa.
During his visit, Nelson Cruz spotted a hyena stalking a lioness and her cubs. Shortly after, the hyena boldly approached and launched an attack on one of the lion cubs.
This reckless act immediately backfired as the lion retaliated. The hyena attempted to fight back, inflicting some wounds on the lioness but ended up having one of its legs bitten off. Severely injured, the hyena painfully retreated to the riverbank to drink water.
After the failed hunt, the hyena returned to the main road and was ambushed by the lioness, which charged at it once again. Despite its attempts to flee, the hyena was ultimately killed by the lion.
Hyenas are perhaps one of the most despised animals in the world due to their cold-blooded and extremely ruthless nature. When hunger strikes, hyenas do not hesitate to attack and cannibalize their own kind.
Hyena has its leg bitten off by the lioness for daring to attack the lion cub.
In Africa, hyenas frequently clash with lions, often when they eye a lion’s prey. However, these encounters rarely result in fatalities, as hyenas usually avoid direct confrontation with lions, relying instead on their numbers or attacking when a lion is off guard to steal prey.
With their greed, boldness, sharp teeth, and pack mentality, hyenas can overpower and kill lions when they have the advantage in numbers or when a lion is isolated, elderly, or injured.
Additionally, even when alone, hyenas enjoy causing trouble and stealing prey from cheetahs, as cheetahs, with their slender and smaller bodies, often flee whenever an adult hyena approaches.
