A school inspector visited a high school, and the principal proudly introduced:
– Sir, our school has always been famous for training outstanding talents, such as J.F. Kennedy, Bill Clinton, Bill Gates… even France’s President Chirac studied here as an exchange student.
The inspector nodded thoughtfully with his hands behind his back and asked a student:
– When you grow up, what do you want to be?
The student confidently replied:
– Sir, I want to be a lawyer!
The inspector continued to ask several other students, each one expressing bigger ambitions than the last, with some wanting to become judges, doctors, pharmacists, scholars, and even one who declared he would become president when he grew up. The principal was very pleased:
– Our students are the pillars of the country, making progress every day beyond the previous generation, sir!
Noticing a boy named Tèo resting his chin on his hand, the inspector curiously asked:
– And you, what do you hope to be?
Tèo quickly replied:
– Sir, I want to be a “good-for-nothing”!
Both the inspector and the principal were surprised, and the principal exclaimed:
– Why would you say that?
Tèo calmly explained:
– It’s because at the gate of my house, there’s a man with a big, beautiful villa and servants. Every morning when he leaves his house, my dad always says: “Really, that guy who always dresses well, drives a shiny car, has a beautiful wife and smart kids, just eats, does nothing, and refuses to work, is truly a good-for-nothing!”
