Captured Alive: A Wolf’s Desperate Struggle Against Two Eagles
The video clip was recorded in Bayan-Ölgii province, Mongolia. Specifically, a wolf is being fiercely attacked by two golden eagles.
Under the sharp claws and strong beak of its adversaries, the wolf has little chance of defending itself. After struggling for a while, it can only lie helplessly, enduring the attack.
It is known that golden eagles are raised and trained by the Mongolian people from a young age for hunting purposes. They possess keen eyesight, sharp talons, and a beak strong enough to tear into any prey.
The Asian Golden Eagle, also known as the Mongolian Eagle, is one of the largest birds of prey on the planet. An adult eagle weighs about 6.5 kg, with a body length ranging from 66 to 102 cm, and a wingspan exceeding 2 meters.
Golden eagles have bright, piercing eyes, with a vision up to eight times better than that of humans. They can reach speeds of up to 250 km/h and can swoop down to capture large animals like wolves at speeds of up to 200 km/h.
The talons on the eagle’s feet are curved and sharp. These sharp claws are their deadly weapons for attacking and capturing prey. Once they have targeted an animal, it is difficult for the prey to escape a painful death.
They hunt rabbits, ground squirrels, foxes, and young ungulates, as well as large birds like swans and cranes. In some cases, they can even kill gray wolves. When food is scarce, these birds may also feed on carrion.
