After catching a whiff of the food, the wolf rushed in to claim the prey. However, this opportunistic move taught the wolf a harsh lesson. In fact, the wolf lost its life due to a single poor decision.
The leopard (Panthera pardus) is distributed across Africa and Asia. They are opportunistic predators, preying on many species of animals and often hunt from the ground or in trees. Leopards are excellent climbers. During the day, they spend most of their time resting under rocks or in shady spots among tree branches. At night, they typically hunt instead of sleeping.
According to National Geographic, leopards can run at speeds of nearly 60 km/h. When spotting a potential prey, they approach in a crouched position with their heads lowered to avoid detection. Leopards are cautious and silent in their approach. When they are 5-10 meters away, they can begin their attack. The predator lunges forward and takes down the prey with a bite to the neck. Smaller animals like birds or mice can fall victim to their claws with a single strike.
Meanwhile, the Ethiopian wolf is considered the rarest wolf species in the world today, with only about 300 to 500 individuals living primarily in the mountainous regions of Ethiopia. Over the past half-century, political and social instability in the country, along with rural development and disease, have significantly reduced the Ethiopian wolf population, pushing them to the brink of extinction.
