Loneliness Can Lead to High Blood Pressure |
In addition to obesity and lack of exercise, loneliness is also a contributing factor that increases the risk of hypertension, according to a recent study.
The research conducted by scientists at the University of Chicago involving 229 participants shows that loneliness can raise blood pressure by over 30 points in individuals over 50 years old.
Specifically, the blood pressure readings of lonely elderly individuals were found to be 30 points higher compared to their peers, even after accounting for other factors such as depression, stress, or hostility.
In addition to raising blood pressure, loneliness also increases the risks of cardiovascular diseases and other psychosocial disorders.
To address this issue, scientists recommend that lonely individuals should enhance their existing relationships and establish new connections, as well as participate in more social activities.
