Attempting to threaten a resting tiger, a stray dog pays the ultimate price with its life.
The incident occurred at Ranthambore National Park, located in Sawai Madhopur district, Rajasthan, India.
The captured image shows the tiger relaxing when a stray dog approaches and starts barking.
Upon noticing the dog nearby, the tiger sprang up, pinned its opponent to the ground, and bit into its neck. The tiger’s strength was overwhelming, leaving the dog no chance to fight back, and it fell lifeless on the spot.
In an interview with Newslions, filmmaker Lakhan Rana, who was driving during the safari, mentioned that the tiger acted in self-defense.
“The dog tried to threaten the resting tiger. If you disturb a tiger, it will retaliate; that’s the law of nature,” he stated.
Rana added that he has worked in the forest for 18 years and has never encountered a more cunning tiger than T-120. The tiger is known as Charger, and locals refer to it as Ganesh and Bhagdur.
“It usually roams around zones 2, 3, and 4 of the forest, but primarily stays in zone 3,” Rana further explained.
It is reported that the tiger had previously taken down a hyena, a leopard, and a sloth bear before ending the dog’s life.
Tigers are known as notorious ambush predators, a natural skill that helps them survive in harsh environments. With a diet almost entirely consisting of meat and sophisticated hunting skills, tigers rightfully hold the top position in the food chain.
Estimates suggest that the ideal range for a tiger to pounce on its prey is about 6 to 9 meters. Once the prey is within this range, the tiger targets their neck and then lunges to seize it, aiming to sever the spinal cord of the unfortunate animal. With their inherent swimming ability, tigers can also utilize nearby water to submerge their prey.
