British scientists have studied the impact of excessive red meat consumption on the risk of developing rheumatoid arthritis. They assert that a high intake of red meat increases the risk of bacterial infections that lead to this disease.
Rheumatoid arthritis occurs when the body’s immune system attacks the joints, resulting in inflammation and joint pain. The study involved 25,630 individuals aged between 45 and 75, who were monitored over a continuous period of nine years. After eliminating various influencing factors such as fruit consumption, the researchers found that those who consumed more than 58 grams of red meat per day were twice as likely to develop rheumatoid arthritis compared to those who only ate 26 grams per day.
