Understanding the struggles of travelers who have to drag heavy luggage while waiting for hours at the airport, American designer Peter Yeadon has created the Fido suitcase, which can follow its owner around like a loyal dog.
Equipped with an electric motor, Fido can autonomously roll its wheels to follow its owner. To avoid getting lost, it uses laser sensors or RIDF (Radar Identification and Detection Framework) technology to distinguish its owner from those nearby. A surface analysis sensor allows Fido to recognize uneven surfaces, such as stairs or escalators, and alert its owner when it encounters obstacles that prevent it from moving.
The design of the Fido suitcase is feasible right now, as the manufacturing technologies involved are already available and currently used in autonomous vacuum cleaners.
