Malaysia has recently launched its first fleet of vehicles powered by biofuel named Envo diesel (comprising 5% palm oil and 95% diesel) to promote the development and usage of alternative fuels, aiming to reduce dependence on petroleum.
It is expected that hundreds of vehicles from the Malaysian government will utilize and test the performance of Envo diesel before the domestic sectors are officially mandated to adopt this fuel. Malaysia began preparations to replace diesel with biofuel in 2008, at a time when it was hoped that this alternative fuel would not only be of better quality but also more cost-effective than current options.
