A man using a metal detector unearthed a giant gold nugget in the brush in Australia.
This “treasure” weighs 5.5kg and was found near the town of Ballarat in Victoria. The Y-shaped gold nugget was located 60cm underground and is one of the largest gold nuggets ever discovered in the area.
Local gold dealer Cordell Kent stated: “He thought he had discovered the hood of a car when he saw something yellow.
He cleaned the top, and the piece of gold gradually became more visible… He saw more and more gold and couldn’t believe what he was seeing.”
The gold shop owner revealed that the treasure hunter used a state-of-the-art metal detector, which enabled him to find gold buried quite deep in an area that many had searched before.
Experts have also noted that Ballarat has long been a destination for gold seekers, but no nugget of such size has ever been found there.
