With a piercing shriek, the meerkat single-handedly drives away a pride of lions in a Kenyan reserve.
This intense encounter was captured by wildlife photographer Jérôme Guillaumot in the Maasai Mara National Reserve, Kenya.
In the clip, a meerkat confronts three lions. The feisty meerkat continuously charges toward the lions that are eyeing it for a meal, undeterred by their significantly larger size.
The animal emits a series of high-pitched shrieks, displaying its readiness to fight. Meanwhile, the lions appear to be intimidated, repeatedly retreating. At one point, the meerkat bares its teeth, getting close enough to attempt a bite. Despite being outnumbered, the lions hesitate to attack the small creature.

Meerkats are small carnivorous mammals primarily found in Africa, but they also inhabit parts of southern Asia and Europe. They are mostly found in dry grasslands and open forests, which provide ample opportunities for hiding and hunting. Meerkats typically avoid dense forests and deserts, where conditions are harsh or large predators are abundant.
This species is known for its bold attacks on larger animals, often preying on lizards, insects, and venomous snakes.
Meerkats utilize their sharp teeth and rapid movement to take down opponents. Additionally, their thick fur can neutralize the venom of any snake they may encounter.
