Rare Mammals Like the Trường Sơn Langur, Wild Boar, and White Pheasant Make a Surprise Return to Bạch Mã National Park, Thừa Thiên Huế.
On March 20, Mr. Nguyễn Vũ Linh, the director of Bạch Mã National Park, announced that park staff recently had a fortunate encounter with a wild boar in the area managed by the park.

The wild boar that park staff encountered was quite large, casually walking along a patrol route to forage for food. It showed no fear and approached the staff of Bạch Mã National Park quite closely.
This staff member recorded a video of the wild boar and informed his colleagues at the park.
Mr. Linh expressed that everyone at Bạch Mã National Park was thrilled after watching the video clip.
“Having worked at the park for decades, this is the first time I have seen a rare wild boar in real life. It’s hard to express how happy we are, especially since we thought there were none left in the forest,” Mr. Linh said.
According to Mr. Linh, the appearance of the wild boar in Bạch Mã National Park indicates that the biodiversity of the forest is gradually recovering.
Not only the wild boar, but the frequency of rare animal species appearing in front of camera traps and tourists’ lenses has also increased. Interestingly, most of these animals seem more friendly and no longer flee at the sight of people as they did before.

Recently, a group of tourists captured a photo of a flock of White Pheasants foraging in Bạch Mã National Park. Another group managed to photograph the Trường Sơn Langur, a critically endangered species listed in the Red Book.
“The chance encounters of tourists with rare animals while visiting Bạch Mã National Park and capturing images of them create unforgettable memories,” Mr. Linh shared.
Mr. Linh stated that in the upcoming period, the team at Bạch Mã National Park will continue to enhance patrols to prevent poaching.
The wild boar is the only existing species in the genus Arctonyx, belonging to the weasel family, and is found in Central and Southeast Asia. They have medium-length brown fur, a sturdy body, a white throat, two black stripes on a long white face, and a pink snout resembling that of a pig.
This species primarily feeds on fruits and small animals and has a relatively docile nature. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) listed this species as vulnerable to extinction in its Red List in 2008 due to overhunting.
