McAfee has just launched the beta version of its all-in-one security platform, Falcon, to compete with the recently introduced Microsoft service, Windows Live OneCare, and the upcoming security service from Symantec, Norton 360.
Falcon is the codename for McAfee Total Protection, which is currently available in beta at: http://beta.mcafee.com. The technology and core modules of Total Protection include SystemGuards, which helps monitor special behaviors related to viruses, spyware, hackers, and more. Additionally, there is a module called “X-Ray” (for Windows), which detects and removes rootkit components from the system.
The new SiteAdvisor tool in Total Protection helps identify potentially dangerous websites that may contain spyware, adware, and other malicious software. Identification cases are marked in red, yellow, and green, depending on their level of danger.
McAfee Total Protection also includes Wi-Fi network monitoring features, a Windows “clean-up” program, and a backup tool for important information.
Participants in the Total Protection beta will have the opportunity to try McAfee’s separate online backup service, which allows for the storage and protection of digital photo collections and personal files, while also providing a very secure way to access data sources.
