All parts of the dog, such as meat, bones, kidneys, and testicles, have medicinal properties. However, dog meat should not be consumed by individuals who have a fever from heat, diarrhea, or those who have recently recovered from illness (especially malaria or typhoid). In households with children suffering from measles, even after recovery, it is advisable to avoid it.

In traditional medicine, dog meat is referred to as “cẩu nhục” or “khuyển nhục”; the penis and testicles of dogs are called “cẩu thận”; the stones found in a dog’s stomach are termed “cẩu bảo” (as they are rarely encountered). In addition, dog bones and stomach are also used medicinally.
Dog Meat: It has a sour and salty taste, is hot in nature, non-toxic, and is said to enhance yang and benefit the kidneys, nourish the body, warm the stomach, and strengthen the essence. According to some texts, dog stomach is very nutritious for the human brain and spinal cord.
Dog Kidneys: The best kidneys come from yellow dogs. According to ancient medical texts, dog kidneys have a salty flavor and a warm nature, are known to enhance yang, benefit essence, and are used to treat kidney yang deficiency, impotence, nocturnal emissions, and back and knee pain.
Traditional Chinese medicine also commonly uses the penis and testicles of dogs, collectively known as “cẩu thận,” which are said to enhance yang essence and nourish the marrow.
This is a hot medicinal ingredient; those with yin deficiency and excess heat, particularly vigorous young individuals, should avoid it.
