With the creation of a dedicated bug database for the Internet Explorer 7 beta version, Microsoft is encouraging users for the first time to publicly submit feedback about this upcoming browser release.
Microsoft has also acknowledged that customers frequently ask why the company has not established a public bug database for Internet Explorer – a standard practice in open-source projects, such as Mozilla’s Firefox browser.
“Many of our customers have requested a better way to disclose Internet Explorer bugs or questioned why we don’t have a Bugzilla like Firefox or other companies do? We often didn’t have a satisfactory answer to this question,” said Al Billings, a member of the Internet Explorer project.
“After many discussions among the Internet Explorer development team, we decided that users have the right to a platform, and we must create a public way for users to submit feedback or suggestions about the application,” Billings stated.
Users can access the Internet Explorer bug database through the Microsoft Connect website (http://connect.microsoft.com/). To access this site, users need to have a Microsoft Passport account. Here, users can only report bugs and provide feedback related to Internet Explorer 7.
