Several sources from Microsoft have reported that the company plans to implement a “massive price cut” for the Xbox 360 by the end of this year, coinciding with the official launch of the PlayStation 3 by Sony.
This price cut is viewed as unprecedented, with each model of the Xbox 360 expected to be reduced by over $100. The basic Xbox 360 model will be priced below $200, while the full-featured Xbox 360 model will be available for under $300, compared to the current official prices of $300 and $400, respectively, for the two models.
Sources also indicate that the new Xbox 360 models released during the end-of-year price cut will be equipped with significantly cheaper processors than those currently purchased from ATI and IBM. Despite being less expensive, these chips are expected to perform on par with the premium processors that Microsoft currently sources from IBM and ATI.
