In mid-June 2006, at Tech Ed held in Boston, USA, Microsoft officially launched a website for developers of its Windows Live services. This website provides various tools that allow developers to expand many of Microsoft’s web-based services. Detailed information can be found at http://ideas.live.com/.
The website includes two sets of SDKs (software development kits), one for Microsoft’s Virtual Earth search tool and another for creating mini applications that run on Live.com.
Mr. George Moore, General Manager of the Windows Live platform at Microsoft, described the Virtual Earth Interactive SDK during a session at Tech Ed on March 13, 2006. Mr. Moore also demonstrated how developers could extend Windows Live Messenger (the next generation version of MSN Messenger, which is currently in beta).
At a seminar on June 11, 2006, Ray Ozzie, Chief Technology Officer at Microsoft, stated that the company plans to gradually merge Windows Live services focused on personal users with services designed for business users.
