Microsoft has announced that its antispyware tool, previously known as Microsoft Antispyware, will now be renamed Windows Defender.
With the official rebranding to Windows Defender, this “Made in Microsoft” security tool will incorporate additional security features, including the ability to scan for rootkits (a more advanced type of spyware akin to trojans), keyloggers, and viruses…
Microsoft has stated that Windows Defender will be directly integrated into Windows Vista. Therefore, until the end of 2006, those who favor Windows Antispyware will have the opportunity to use a comprehensive upgrade for their beloved security tool.
Microsoft plans to continue upgrading Windows AntiSpyware in January 2006, but it is unclear whether Microsoft will release a standalone version of Windows Defender for XP users after launching Windows Vista.
