On June 22, the U.S. Coast Guard discovered several pieces of debris believed to belong to the Titan submarine near the wreck site of the Titanic. Given the widespread distribution of the debris found on the ocean floor, experts suggest that the submarine likely experienced an explosion shortly after losing contact with its mother ship on the surface.
This led them to speculate that the Titan must have undergone a catastrophic explosion, resulting in the deaths of all five crew members on board.
Numerous pieces of the Titan submarine were found near the wreck of the Titanic.
Officials reported that they discovered five different pieces of debris, including the conical nose of the Titan and the pressure chamber. Chief of the Coast Guard Rear Admiral John Mauger stated: “The debris is consistent with a catastrophic pressure chamber explosion.”
Experts believe that at the time of losing contact, the submarine was at a depth of over 3,000 meters. At this depth, the immense water pressure could turn any small crack into an unforeseen hazard for the vessel.
Following the announcement of the incident’s cause, a video recreating the Titan submarine’s disaster at the ocean floor was posted on social media, quickly garnering millions of views.

In the recreated video, while descending to the ocean floor, the vessel exploded in mere moments, scattering debris everywhere.
Sharing with the New York Post, expert Ofer Ketter, co-founder of the private submarine manufacturing company Sub-Merge, stated that the explosion could have occurred in just a few nanoseconds. Due to the rapid nature of the incident, it is highly likely that the passengers on board were “unaware that it had happened”.
“They would never know that it happened. It occurred instantaneously, even before their brains could send a message to their bodies that they were in danger,” he assessed.
