A Japanese company has developed technology capable of streaming a 2-hour movie in just 0.5 seconds – the fastest speed ever achieved in the world using fiber optics in this field.
Kansai Electronics has utilized fiber optic cables encased in steel to reach a speed of 1 terabit per second – which is 100 times faster than the current fastest intercontinental information transmission speed, according to the company’s spokesperson.
Kansai, the second largest electricity provider in Japan, has not yet decided when it will launch this technology commercially, but mentioned it could become a reality by 2010 or later.
