According to the multinational business magazine Fortune, Pattern Energy Group (USA) announced on December 27 that it has invested over $11 billion into the largest clean energy super project in U.S. history. Construction for the project has now commenced.
The SunZia Super Project consists of a wind farm located in New Mexico with a capacity of up to 3.5 gigawatts (SunZia Wind) and a transmission line extending over 900 kilometers to Arizona (SunZia Transmission).
This initiative is set to provide affordable clean energy to the residents of the western United States. Pattern Energy expects the project to generate a total economic benefit of over $20 billion, encompassing both direct economic advantages and indirect financial impacts.
Out of the $11 billion investment, $8.8 billion will be allocated for infrastructure development, while $2.25 billion will go towards tax contributions.
The SunZia project was acquired by the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board in 2020 and took 17 years to receive approval.
Experts in the field suggest that the SunZia project will set a new standard for large-scale clean energy projects globally.
These projects not only aim to produce clean energy at reasonable prices but also strive to deliver significant economic benefits without imposing additional costs on consumers.
