Social media, mobile video, and the “Googleization” phenomenon will continue to reshape the internet in the coming years.
Experts from Piper Jaffray investment firm asserted this during the opening session of the Global Internet Summit.
“The Google Revolution” – also known as “Googleization” – is far from over, said Safa Rashtchy, CEO and senior analyst at Piper Jaffray. Google continues to be a driving force behind the establishment of numerous new companies while also transforming the way many existing companies are structured today.
The Global Internet Summit commenced yesterday (June 12). This marks the second year of the conference. This year, the summit focuses on issues such as online entertainment and advertising, international markets, and the social media landscape.
For instance, Rashtchy pointed out that social media platforms will significantly contribute to shaping the internet of the future, even though there are still some doubts about the profitability of these networks.
Social media networks like MySpace.com are currently challenging traditional web portals. MySpace has surpassed MSN and AOL in terms of monthly page visits. The number of visitors to this site is now comparable to 75% of Yahoo’s traffic statistics.
James Lamberti, a researcher at ComScore, also expressed surprise at the rapid growth of MySpace. In March alone, the website attracted over 59 million unique visitors. “Google has never experienced such a rapid growth rate,” he noted.
Growth opportunities in the market are particularly favorable for social networking communities targeting young or middle-aged individuals.
