A deadly battle took place nearly 400 years ago near Ethin (England), resulting in the deaths of 5,000 soldiers. Since then, locals have occasionally reported sightings of two ghostly armies clashing in the sky.
Unsolved Mystery: Sky Battles
Psychics use the term “Honting” to describe the connection between certain apparitions and a specific geographical location. Occasionally, hundreds of apparitions can be seen in the sky at these locations. Interestingly, “Honting” is often observed in places where real battles occurred many years ago.
One such location is in England, near Ethin, where in 1643, two armies led by Prince Rupert and Oliver Cromwell clashed in a decisive battle. Over 5,000 soldiers fell on the battlefield.

A month later, local shepherds witnessed a strange phenomenon: two ghost armies fiercely clashing in the sky, accompanied by the sounds of gunfire, drumbeats, and swords clashing… From that point on, residents of the surrounding areas have continued to see this phantom battle occurring in the evening sky.
In 1785, in Wexford, Ireland, a grand funeral was held for General Ferdinand de Rothschild. Just as the body was being laid to rest, a mighty army appeared marching in the sky.
In 1748, near the city of Vienna, 20 people witnessed a battalion marching across the sky.
In 1888, for several hours, a cavalry unit appeared in the sky over Varagodin in Croatia, led by an officer wielding a shining sword. These strange events were described in detail in the newspapers of the time.
Similar observations of “sky battles” have also been recorded in ancient Russian chronicles.
During a battle with the Teutonic Knights on the frozen lake of Chuxco in 1242, many soldiers in the army of King Alexander Nevsky saw “a heavenly host” suddenly appear in the sky to assist the Russian forces…
In November 1956, two British men named Pete Dinoviep and Patrick Skipworth embarked on a hiking trip on Mount Culin. Around 3 AM, they suddenly heard a loud rumbling noise, and upon exiting their tent, saw dozens of Scottish marksmen firing at an invisible enemy. In the morning, the noises in the sky awakened them again, and this time they saw the Scottish soldiers, looking disheartened, hurriedly retreating and stumbling over invisible rocks.
After returning to the town of Xlaigasane, Pete and Patrick shared their experience with the hotel manager, who informed them that they were not the first to witness this phenomenon; it was the image of the battle that occurred in 1745.
Scientific Explanation
Physicist A. Gurvich explained similar apparitions through complex optical phenomena in the atmosphere, caused by the refraction of light in the atmospheric layers.
This phenomenon was also thoroughly investigated by American physicists A. Freid and U. Mack. These scholars suggested that the strange properties of the atmospheric lens create different apparitions and distort the information carried by light based on its propagation through the air.
Apparitions offer a convenient explanation. However, the issue is that some manifestations of this phenomenon do not entirely fit within that interpretation. For example, residents of the town of Vecve (Belgium) observed this battle occurring precisely one week after the Battle of Oateclo.
Experts from the renowned International Psychical Research Society believe that the secret of sky battles lies in the immense waste of psychic energy during the conflict. The amalgamation of pain, despair, and fear became imprinted in space, later evoking images in the minds of those highly sensitive psychologically.
American researchers Oen and Pret reached similar conclusions. They analyzed over 100 cases of “apparitions” and concluded that most of those witnessing the “sky battles” at that time were in a state of heightened stimulation, which likely enabled them to see what others could not.
So, are the “battles of ghosts” not real but only taking place in the minds of people, closer to hallucinations than optical illusions and other optical phenomena? Let’s not rush to conclusions.
The mystery of “misleading apparitions in space” may be explained by experts from the Voronezh Committee for Anomalous Phenomena Research. They, along with staff from the Voronezh Geological Enterprise, recently conducted a survey in a tectonic fault zone in Novokhopersk. There, they discovered and photographed energy channels of the Earth. The images clearly show spheres and luminous clouds above the anomalous areas.
Furthermore, according to one of the survey leaders, Mr. Heinrich Xilanov, the team captured images of events that occurred in those locations in the distant past. In photographs taken with special equipment along the Hopec River, they clearly see tents and figures wearing helmets… At the time of the photo capture, none of these objects were present.
Voronezh experts on anomalous phenomena explained: It’s possible that the film recorded a visual imprint of ancient information that the energy “memory field” from the fault zone still retains. The fact is that during the Great Patriotic War against Nazi Germany, the defense line ran through those areas. This defense line included a Czechoslovak regiment commanded by L. Svoboda. The soldiers in helmets appearing in the photographs, as well as their uniforms, perfectly match that time period.
However, even if this hypothesis is confirmed, there remains much mystery surrounding the “sky battles.” For instance, some documents have reported strange materializations of objects during these sky battles. For example, in 1686, in England, a parade of armed soldiers was observed in the sky, and many weapons, swords, and helmets fell to the ground.
In 1800, after a sky battle in the Kinken region, branches were found on the ground along with many bloodstains on the grass.
