Located in the northwest of Yakutia – Siberia, near the upper reaches of the Viliuy River, lies a peculiar valley where traces of significant geological changes occurred hundreds of years ago. In this area, strange metal fragments have been found deep beneath the soil, and scientists have yet to determine their chemical composition. The local name for this land is Uliuiu Cherkechekh, also known as the “valley of death.”
This region spans over 1,000 km2, covered by vast Taiga forests, numerous swamps, and volcanic craters, with evidence of meteorite impacts on Earth.
In the past, this land was traversed by the nomadic Evenk people. They traveled from Bodaibo through Annybar to the Laptev Sea. The nomads recounted that they often saw metal plates that resembled copper but were very hard and sharp, capable of easily cutting other metals. Each plate measured 6-8 meters in diameter, and the surface was covered with a powdery substance. When a knife was used to cut into it, no scratches were left on the surface. Through analysis, scientists concluded that these metal plates are fragments of large circular structures that contained a considerable number of people inside.

In 1936, during an exploration of the “valley of death,” a Russian geologist discovered a red metallic hemisphere protruding from the ground. This hemisphere was large enough to fit two people inside. At that time, the geologist lacked the necessary measuring tools and knowledge to identify what it was. By 1979, another archaeological group, along with the same Russian geologist, found the area completely barren.
Local residents near the “valley of death” reported witnessing many strange phenomena in the area, such as gigantic spheres rising from the ground, exploding and scattering metal fragments, dry lightning, ball lightning, and traces of meteorite impacts from outer space. Many claimed to have seen fireballs rising into the sky like the explosion of a nuclear bomb. Notably, it was observed that the vegetation in this area grew differently than natural plants. They were lush and green, with larger leaves and many branches. The grass was also very tall, reaching twice the height of a person.
One of the strangest legends about the “valley of death” told by the Yakut nomads states: “One day, the valley suddenly became shrouded in thick gray clouds and was struck by fierce lightning. A massive tornado erupted from the ground, sending dust flying for hundreds of miles. This strange object was

red like copper and emitted very loud sounds. Shortly after, it disappeared deep underground, leaving behind a gigantic crater with a radius of up to 20 meters. It was said that anyone curious enough to approach the crater to see what had happened never returned. After that, gigantic fireballs appeared, erupting from the ground. Upon hitting the ground, they caused terrible explosions and created deep craters of up to 100 meters in the surrounding mountain area. Following these explosions, the nomadic people had to leave to find safer lands for their survival.
According to scientists, the strange explosions described in the legend resemble modern nuclear explosions. They also discovered that the remnants found in the “valley of death” share many similarities with the mysteries of the ancient Mayan civilization in Mexico, which disappeared in 830 due to an explosion caused by an unknown force that remains unclear to this day. Notably, in the “valley of death,” scientists have measured higher than normal radiation levels from underground at certain times of the day.
Researchers believe that strong magnetic field activity exists deep beneath the soil of the “valley of death.” This area was once selected by the Soviet military for nuclear weapons testing, leading to residual radiation combined with the magnetic fields in the soil, resulting in severe contamination. However, the origin of the strange metal plates found here remains unexplained, and their chemical composition has yet to be analyzed. Some even speculate that these are fragments of flying saucers from outer space, as many people in the area have witnessed glowing objects rising from the valley. To this day, the mysteries of this land remain unsolved.
