The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is set to embark on a new mission to survey ultraviolet light across the entire sky to understand how galaxies and stars form and evolve.
UltraViolet Explorer (UVEX) Telescope will be operational by 2030 as part of NASA’s upcoming astrophysics exploration mission.
In addition to its ability to survey the entire sky with high sensitivity, the UVEX telescope will quickly detect sources of ultraviolet light in the universe.
This capability will allow the telescope to capture images of explosions resulting from gravitational wave collisions during neutron star mergers. The UVEX telescope will also carry a ultraviolet spectrometer to study supernovae and massive stars.
