The Curiosity Rover recently surprised observers by capturing an image resembling a perfectly carved gateway, leading into the rocky interior of Mars.
This image is so striking that it could easily convince anyone that it might be a hiding place for extraterrestrials or even a portal to another universe.
Some people suggest that the photo has such clear geological features that it resembles a scene right out of a science fiction movie we often see on screen.
However, geologists explain that this could simply be the remnants of a faulting process that occurred in the past, related to tectonic activity in Mars’s crust, similar to what we experience on Earth. It is known that faulting is also the primary cause of the formation of natural caves as well as fissures on the planet’s surface.
According to some experts, it is very difficult to determine the actual size of the “gateway,” even when surrounding objects are present.
Coincidentally, on May 4, a quake estimated at 5 on the Richter scale occurred on Mars, which was recorded by NASA’s InSight lander.
Therefore, scientists have yet to confirm the origin of the mysterious “gateway” in the image. Moreover, despite the gateway appearing very large, some experts argue that it is challenging to ascertain its actual height based on a single photograph. In other words, it could be anywhere from a few centimeters to several meters in real life.
According to NASA, the image of the “mysterious gateway” on Mars was taken at a geological area known as Greenheugh Pediment, and it was fortuitously captured by the Curiosity rover’s camera on May 7, 2022. It remains unclear whether NASA will decide to conduct further research to unravel the mystery behind it.
