The passing of football legend Pelé has sparked an outpouring of grief across the globe. For those at NASA – the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, Pelé’s farewell was commemorated in a uniquely special way.
In their tribute message for Pelé, NASA shared an image of a spiral galaxy showcasing the prominent colors of the Brazilian flag—green, yellow, and blue.
This image features the NGC 300 galaxy, located in the Sculptor constellation, captured by the Galaxy Evolution Explorer satellite. This galaxy is approximately 7 million light-years away from Earth. NASA obtained this remarkable image in 2005.
The blue dots on the outer branches of the galaxy’s spiral represent young stars, while older stars, which are concentrated toward the center, exhibit yellow and green hues.
A meaningful image that NASA used to honor Pelé.
All these colors evoke the Brazilian flag. NASA’s tribute to the legend Pelé could not be more special. This remarkable photo garnered the attention of hundreds of thousands of Twitter users.
However, if there is a football star named in the universe, it is not Pelé but Cristiano Ronaldo. In 2015, a newly discovered galaxy was named Cosmos Redshift 7 Galaxy (abbreviated as CR7) by astronomers at the European Southern Observatory. The name was inspired by the football icon Cristiano Ronaldo.
“The nickname of the galaxy is inspired by the great football player Cristiano Ronaldo, who is known by the nickname CR7,” reported the astronomers from the European Southern Observatory who discovered the galaxy.
