“We need to be mentally prepared when we find evidence, even if we are just at the stage of piecing together the first traces.”
This statement has drawn significant attention from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), especially in the context of new advancements in space science.
According to NASA, although we have not yet found any evidence of extraterrestrial life, this does not mean it is impossible.
“Many scientists believe that extraterrestrial life is a distinct possibility, if not a complete probability,” NASA emphasized.
James Green, NASA’s chief scientist, noted that modern researchers have outlined why we need to establish a framework to receive evidence of extraterrestrial life.
“Our generation may indeed be the first to discover evidence of extraterrestrial life,” James Green stated in a recent publication. “This privilege comes with responsibility.”
Researchers suggest that the discovery of extraterrestrial life is unlikely to be a simple, random event.
Instead, it is more likely that discovering extraterrestrial life will be a process of scientific investigation and exploration that is cumulative, developed, and long-term.

Researchers explain that history has recorded many claims of discovering life that were later proven to be inaccurate or ambiguous when examined in binary terms.
Given the complexity of qualitative assessment, NASA states that humanity needs a more advanced metric to measure and chart new discoveries.
“Establishing best practices for communicating information about life discovery can help set reasonable expectations in the early stages of an incredibly challenging endeavor,” researchers noted.
