On the afternoon of November 18, contestant Võ Thành Minh Tuệ defended their thesis from Singapore via the Internet.
Vietnam’s Natural Environment – A Destination for Ecotourism
The author has diligently collected a vast amount of diverse knowledge about the natural environment of Vietnam (from administrative data, terrain, to flora and fauna), rich in various types of materials (from text, static images, maps to audio and video), serving scientific education and tourism, with good educational effectiveness. The product is intended for students and learners.
The software allows users to view information in multimedia formats, combining images, sounds, maps, and includes several video clips.
Tuệ expressed a desire to disseminate what they have accumulated to create economic and social impact by transforming this product into a commercial product.
VieBPM Solutions for Business Process Management and Online ISO Management System
This software demonstrates the team’s “loyalty” to Microsoft Windows, as all presented demo versions revolve around online payment documentation and ISO quality management, with databases entirely created using MS Office in a Windows environment.
Judging panel members focused on questioning team leader Nguyễn Võ Long about the product’s application potential outside Microsoft applications; however, the product has not yet completed these modules. Long remained composed despite a barrage of challenging questions from the judges. Unfortunately, due to overconfidence, many of his presentations about the product were still in the “near future” – merely concepts! In reality, the product has not updated the application capabilities that the judges raised.
This product focuses on VieBPM solutions for automating third-generation business processes with a distinctly tiered three-level website system. This system can provide information right down to individual workstations and handheld devices, making it convenient for updating work-related information.
A significant concern with this product is that the online management capability for ISO 9000 quality standards cannot currently be independently applied in Vietnam. The ability to connect and be compatible with the state quality management system is an area that needs thorough development.
Editorial Management Software – A Vital Tool for Newsrooms
Currently, managing personnel and articles in many newsrooms is quite complex. Articles are often not tightly managed, causing difficulties for managers and slowing the information update process. Recognizing this reality, authors Hà Kiên Tân, Vũ Văn Quý, and Bùi Tường Vũ have worked diligently to develop editorial management software, hoping it will significantly support newsroom management operations.
In the introduction, contestant Hà Kiên Tân emphasized that the editorial management software is not an electronic newsroom but rather supports the work of managers and reporters. Reporters can write directly in the software instead of using a word processor or can attach files like sending an email.
The software includes main sections such as Article Management, Inputting Articles into the System, Weekly Reports, Discussions and Commands, and Performance Monitoring. Based on this, the system will output edited articles for print newspapers and publications. The keyword search function on the internet is also quite effective.
The authors also proposed functionalities to enhance, such as Personal Document Repository, Statistics of Used Images (a very useful feature for newspaper editors), and the processing workflow for multiple publications within the same newspaper. Contestant Bùi Tường Vũ asserted: The software only has a general standard, while its application in each newsroom will adapt to that newsroom’s specific characteristics for appropriate adjustments.
During the critical feedback session, the judges rated this software as quite promising but noted that significant improvements are needed. Important and necessary features such as messaging, task exchanges, and open data notifications for users without accounts are essential. To be more user-friendly, the software should integrate an electronic newspaper module.
Some opinions suggest that this software is rigid and not truly relatable to the specific tasks of newsrooms. Especially, the most criticized aspect is the authenticity of the information entered. How to prove that the information is accurate, and that the sender must take responsibility? The authors faced confusion when addressing these questions.
At the end of the presentation, the judges rated the product highly. The authors also acknowledged that some suggestions for product development were very valid.
IRP Solution – Comprehensive Enterprise Management Based on ERP Model
Enterprise management based on the ERP model is still a relatively new technology in Vietnam. Phí Anh Tuấn, representing A-Z Company, stated that even when going abroad to exchange business and promote products, many people still think he is boasting.
The product competing in the Nhân Tài Đất Việt this time from Anh Tuấn’s team is the effort of over 160 staff members from A-Z Company focused on building and perfecting it. This product also took considerable time and effort to develop separate business modules that operate compatibly with each other. Another challenge is the tedious process of gathering and inputting the database into the system, requiring meticulous attention to detail.
A-Z’s product is a comprehensive information management system designed for medium and large enterprises or corporations, featuring capabilities such as order management, sales management, debt management, and human resource management. Presenting to the judging panel, Phí Anh Tuấn shared: “The issue of registering copyright for the product is a source of frustration for me. A-Z Company has attempted to register copyright multiple times, but due to excessive procedures, this process has not yet been completed.”
Tuấn mentioned that although over 160 people participated in the project, he asserted it is the company’s product, so no individual should have any doubts or disputes about copyright.
According to a judging panel member, for this product to have wide application potential, security on browsers needs to be upgraded.
Midi Utility Software – Targeting Professional Musicians
The authors Nguyễn Anh Kiệt and Trần Việt Hưng (HCMC) have brought to the competition the only multimedia software so far. The standout feature of the software is its ability to automatically find keys and chords, even for complex keys.
Users simply need to input a MIDI file, and the system will automatically recognize all the chords in the music piece while separating the types of instruments played. The software integrates 128 types of instruments, allowing users to change playing modes as desired. According to author Trần Việt Hưng, this software will create an ideal virtual environment for musicians to compose, allowing them to listen to their works immediately after composing and select appropriate styles for their pieces.
The judges rated the product as having a beautiful, professional interface. Midi Utility accurately identifies the music. However, some minor functions lack customizable buttons, causing difficulties for new users. The interface being in English also poses a barrier for non-English speaking users.
Some opinions indicate that this software is not suitable for general education institutions as it is geared toward those who have deep knowledge of music, making it more appropriate for professional musicians.
Team leader Nguyễn Anh Kiệt mentioned that the product has been widely sold internationally, but it is not yet well-known in Vietnam. In the future, the team will continue to refine the product and enhance its commercialization.
Professor Nguyễn Văn Hiệu rated this as a very interesting product with significant commercial potential.
