Websense Security Labs has recently warned users about a new Trojan that is spreading widely on the Internet by spoofing notifications about a new update for McAfee antivirus software.
The emails containing this new Trojan are sent out as spam, masquerading as updates regarding a virus named “Kongos 31” from McAfee – which, in reality, does not exist. These emails include a link leading to a webpage designed to closely resemble the McAfee updates download page.
“This email advises users to quickly click on the link and download the new update from McAfee. However, the link actually directs to a fraudulent website that looks very similar to McAfee’s official site. If users click on this link, they will certainly be infected with a download Trojan embedded in this webpage.”
McAfee has also officially announced to users that the company has not released any updates as stated in the email.
