The temperature in Europe in the final days of this year is expected to break the record set in 2021, as an unusually mild winter envelops much of the continent.
Strange warmth is covering France and Germany as the New Year approaches. Many areas maintained temperatures above 10 degrees Celsius on the morning of December 29 and recorded the warmest December night in history, according to the Washington Post.

Most of the central regions of the continent are predicted to have minimum temperatures of 15 degrees Celsius, with some locations potentially exceeding 20 degrees Celsius. This level of warmth is typically seen in Europe at the end of spring.
According to the Washington Post, many locations across Europe could break temperature records on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
Meteorologist Guillaume Séchet stated that France could experience its warmest New Year’s Eve in history, with national temperatures averaging about 8 degrees Celsius higher than usual on December 31.
Germany is also forecasted to record record-high temperatures on New Year’s Eve, with Berlin at 14 degrees Celsius and Dresden at 16.8 degrees Celsius, surpassing last year’s figures.
“Almost all (records) could be broken this year,” Kachelmannwetter, a German weather company, wrote on Twitter.
The warm weather will extend into Central and Eastern Europe throughout this weekend. Previously, Europe experienced a warm Christmas with temperatures higher than the average across much of the continent, according to Severe Weather Europe.
