This unusual creature is one of 60 new species discovered during a three-week research expedition by scientists from Harvard University.
Once again, the recent appearance of this strange organism has left scientists scratching their heads in research and inquiry.
Newly Discovered Organism in the South American Rainforest
This peculiar creature, with a body that is yellow speckled with orange, measures only 7mm in length. Its tail features a tuft of silver hair that stands upright, reminiscent of the famous “electric hair” of Troll dolls from the 1990s. This tuft is made up of a substance secreted from a special gland located in the insect’s abdomen.
The unusual organism was discovered by the American research team in the rainforest of South America. Based on its shape and lifestyle characteristics, scientists speculate that this creature is closely related to the nymph species.
In his statement, Professor Trond Larsen from Princeton University (New Jersey, USA) mentioned that he spent hours studying the silk-spinning behavior of nymphs for comparison. Ultimately, he narrowed down the hypotheses from 16 to just 4 possibilities. According to his deductions, it could only belong to one of four families: Dictyopharidae, Nogodinidae, Lophopidae, or Tropiduchidae.
