Dr. Nguyen Van Phuoc, Deputy Director of the Ninh Thuan Center for Preventive Medicine, reported that as of the afternoon of March 19, an additional 20 children infected with the enteric virus have been hospitalized, bringing the total number of patients to 45.
Symptoms such as blisters on hands, feet, and mouth, high fever, and vomiting indicate that the patients are showing signs of infection with enterovirus 71 (hand, foot, and mouth syndrome). However, an official conclusion will await the results of the serum and stool tests from the patients early this week.
Since the outbreak began in Vinh Hai (Ninh Hai) in mid to late February, the disease has spread to several other localities such as Nhon Hai (Ninh Hai) and Tan Tai (Phan Rang). Kindergartens in these areas have temporarily closed for a week to allow relevant authorities to focus on managing the outbreak.
