An American company has developed a tent with an integrated battery-powered pump that inflates the tent at the push of a button, delivering air at a rate of 20 liters per minute.
Traditional tents with pole supports can sometimes be challenging for users to set up. This is one of the reasons inflatable tents have been created. The American company Aerogogo has developed the Giga tent, making tent setup even simpler with its self-inflating capability that takes just a few minutes, as reported by New Atlas on April 23.
Most inflatable tents require users to connect a pump to the tent and manually inflate the frame. While this task is not complicated, it can add extra time when setting up camp.
Users simply lay the tent flat on the ground and start the pump with the push of a button.
To address this issue, the Giga tent comes with a built-in battery-powered electric pump. Users only need to spread the tent on the ground and activate the pump with a button. It will inflate the tent frame at a rate of approximately 20 liters of air per minute. The pump automatically stops after 3 minutes when the tent is fully inflated. It is rated with an IPX5 waterproof standard, making it resistant to rain. With a 2,000 mAh lithium battery and a 5-hour charging time, it can operate for 30 cycles before needing a recharge.
When packed, the tent is the size of a backpack measuring 50 cm x 20 cm x 20 cm and weighs 3.6 kg. When inflated, the tent measures 210 cm on each side and is 136 cm tall, providing an interior space of 4.8 m². According to Aerogogo, the tent can accommodate two adults and two children. The tent’s fabric is made from a thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) blend with polyester. It can withstand winds of up to level 7.
Aerogogo is currently running a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter to develop the Giga tent. If produced and brought to market, the expected retail price for this model is $399.
