According to information from the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, around November 4-5, a strong cold air mass is expected to impact the weather in our country.
The meteorological agency has forecasted that due to this cold air mass, from November 5, temperatures in the northern region will drop significantly, and widespread cold weather will set in.
Specifically, according to the latest forecast from the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, from now until November 3-4, northern provinces will continue to experience cool weather during the night and morning, with the lowest temperatures ranging from 18-21 degrees Celsius, and mountainous areas seeing temperatures below 18 degrees Celsius. During the day, the sun will shine, with maximum temperatures reaching 28-31 degrees Celsius.
From November 5, temperatures in the North will drop significantly.
However, around November 4-5, a relatively strong cold air mass will affect the weather in our country. From November 5, temperatures in the North will drop significantly, and widespread cold weather will occur; localized severe cold may appear in mountainous regions.
Thus, from now until around November 5, the North will experience two consecutive cold air masses, with the latter mass causing a significant drop in temperatures and cold weather. This is considered the first widespread cold spell of the year.
In terms of weather patterns from now until November 8, the Southern Meteorological Station has indicated that around November 1-2, the cold air will weakly strengthen again in the northern part of the country, continuing to strengthen significantly by November 4-5.
The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting has noted that in Lang Son, temperatures will drop by 4-5 degrees Celsius on November 5, reaching a maximum of 22 degrees, followed by a further drop to 19 degrees, reducing the temperature difference compared to nighttime to about 17 degrees. During this time, in Cao Bang, temperatures will fluctuate between 20-24 degrees, then decrease to 17-21 degrees. Hanoi will also see a drop, with temperatures on November 5 ranging from 20-24 degrees, eventually dropping to 18-21 degrees.

Regarding the winter weather conditions this year, Mr. Hoang Phuc Lam, Deputy Director of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, shared with Vietnamnet that severe cold and frost are likely to be more intense in December 2024 to January 2025. It is necessary to be cautious about the potential for prolonged severe cold, especially in the northern mountainous areas, accompanied by frost and icy conditions during this period. Severe cold and frost in the Northern region are likely to occur widely from the second half of December (compared to the average of many years).
Meanwhile, in an interview with the newspaper Lao Dong, Mr. Nguyen Duc Hoa – Deputy Head of the Climate Forecasting Department at the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting mentioned that cold air is expected to increase in intensity and frequency starting from November 2024.
“We anticipate that the first severe cold spell of this winter will occur in the second half of December 2024. From that point forward, strong cold air will be active intensively. The severe cold spells will mainly occur from the second half of December to February 2025” – Mr. Hoa stated.
Previously, in 2023, the severe cold spells appeared late. Last year was also considered a warm winter. By the end of November, and even into December 2023, northern regions still experienced dry sunny weather with daily maximum temperatures exceeding 30 degrees Celsius in some areas.
According to Mr. Nguyen Duc Hoa, this winter is expected to be colder than the winter of 2023, with predictions of more days of severe cold and frost in the northern region.
“This winter’s weather is forecasted to be dry and cold in the early part of the season and wet and cold in the later part (around late February 2025 and March 2025, there is a possibility of light rain and drizzle). This is consistent with climate patterns” – Mr. Hoa commented.
