In the evening and night of April 22, the Northern region will experience scattered showers and thunderstorms. There is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning, and hail during these storms. Heavy localized rainfall may cause flash floods and landslides.
According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, this evening and night (April 22), the Northern region will have scattered showers and thunderstorms, with localized heavy rain amounts ranging from 15 to 30 mm, and in some places exceeding 50 mm; the Central region and the Central Highlands will also experience scattered showers and thunderstorms.
During thunderstorms, there is a risk of tornadoes, lightning, hail, and strong gusty winds. Heavy localized rainfall can lead to flash floods in small rivers and streams, landslides on slopes, and flooding in low-lying areas.

The meteorological agency warns of a disaster risk level due to tornadoes, lightning, and hail: level 1.
In this transitional period of the year, strong thunderstorms accompanied by hail are occurring widely and with an unusual frequency. This is due to the influence of El Niño, which has caused temperatures in the Northern region in the first half of April to be 2 to 3 degrees Celsius higher than the average of many years. Higher temperatures lead to stronger atmospheric disturbances, resulting in more intense thunderstorms this year.
Additionally, this period sees competition between air masses, causing fluctuations in the atmosphere. It is forecasted that in the next two days, a cool air mass will move down, compressing the existing hot and humid air in the Northern region, which will lead to strong convective cloud development.
These two days will have a high risk of dangerous weather phenomena such as tornadoes, lightning, strong gusty winds, and hail accompanied by thunderstorms, especially in mountainous and midland areas of the Northern region. The thunderstorms are expected to occur mainly in the evening, at night, and early morning.
Today, heat in the Northern region is only affecting the areas of Dien Bien, Son La, and Hoa Binh, with temperatures not severe, generally around 35 to 36 degrees Celsius. In the Northeast region, including the capital Hanoi, there will be little sunshine, but it will be humid and hot from 30 to 34 degrees Celsius during the afternoon.
In the Central region, the heat continues to be severe across the area. Temperatures commonly range from 35 to 38 degrees Celsius. In some areas, such as Nghe An to Thua Thien Hue, temperatures can reach 39 to 40 degrees Celsius, indicating exceptionally severe heat.
The Central Highlands and Southern region will also experience hot weather today. Ho Chi Minh City and many other provinces will have temperatures ranging from 35 to 36 degrees Celsius, while Tay Ninh, Dong Phu, and Bien Hoa may experience intense heat reaching 37 degrees Celsius.
At sea, the waters off the two island districts of Hoang Sa and Truong Sa are forecasted to be sunny today, with winds not exceeding level 5 and visibility over 10 km. However, the southern Gulf of Tonkin will have less rain but strong winds at levels 5-6, with gusts reaching level 7, causing rough seas.
