Yesterday (May 31), Symantec officially began testing its new security and PC optimization application, Genesis.
In February, Symantec announced its plans to develop a new security software codenamed Genesis, which integrates all components of its existing security technology, PC optimization, and backup solutions.
The latest move by Symantec is seen as a response to Microsoft’s official launch of the online security and PC optimization service Windows Live OneCare and McAfee’s “Falcon” product.
The developer stated that the testing phase for the new security application will continue throughout the summer. The software is expected to officially launch in March 2007, which is a delay from the previous schedule. Symantec originally planned to release the official version of this software in September of this year, but this deadline has now been pushed to next year.
Also yesterday, along with the launch of the new product, Symantec announced that Genesis will be renamed Norton 360.
Norton 360 is part of the vision for the next generation of online security services – Security 2.0. Upon its official release, Norton 360 will be available globally and will be compatible with Windows XP and Windows Vista.
