Mr. Jill Mathews, a hotel industry expert, decided to embark on an adventure to the African wilderness after retiring at the age of 63, seeking the chance to observe wildlife.
On that day, Mr. Jill had a scheduled trip from the Punda Maria campsite to visit the Klopperfontein dam, which was running low on water due to a prolonged drought.

In this case, the lions strategically positioned themselves to easily observe and gather information. All these actions were carried out quietly and smoothly, with most animals at the dam unaware of what was unfolding.
Eventually, the inevitable happened: a young elephant calf strayed from its group to wander alone. Immediately, the hungry lions seized the opportunity for an “easy meal.” The lions swiftly emerged from their hiding spots and initiated their attack signal.

Witnessing the situation, the group of tourists was filled with horror and deeply concerned for the fate of the trembling young elephant surrounded by the bloodthirsty predators.
Suddenly, from the drinking area, a herd of buffalo approached the lions’ hunting ground with a scrutinizing attitude.
In the wild, lions are natural enemies of buffalo. They are among the most formidable killers of buffalo in Africa, so when the buffalo detected the presence of their long-time adversary, their age-old rage flared up. Unable to bear the sight of the lions bullying a helpless creature right before them, they launched an attack, determined to drive away the enemy to protect the calf.
The calf finally escaped from the lions thanks to the help of the buffalo herd.
Faced with the buffalo’s vigorous attack, each lion had to flee, allowing the young elephant to return to its herd, narrowly escaping death.
