Mr. Bill Gates, Chairman of the Microsoft Corporation – the giant software company in the United States, will visit Vietnam on April 21 and 22, following an invitation from Prime Minister Phan Văn Khải during the Prime Minister’s visit to the corporation’s headquarters in Seattle, USA last year.

The Government Office also issued document number 1400/VPCP-QHQT, dated March 17, 2006, assigning the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications to lead and coordinate with relevant ministries and sectors to prepare the program and content for this reception.
During Prime Minister Phan Văn Khải’s working visit to the USA, he praised Microsoft’s achievements and expressed a desire for Microsoft to further support Vietnam in its IT development efforts.

With Mr. Bill Gates’ commitment to support Vietnam in IT development, approximately 50,000 Vietnamese teachers will be trained by this corporation in software and computer skills to aid in the widespread adoption of IT in the community. Additionally, Microsoft is collaborating with the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) to assist small and medium-sized enterprises in Vietnam in updating IT applications for business and enhancing understanding of intellectual property rights.
According to reports from the Government Office, Prime Minister Phan Văn Khải has agreed in principle to meet with Mr. Bill Gates on April 22. The detailed program will be drafted by the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications. It is known that Mr. Bill Gates will have a busy schedule with the Government, key Microsoft partners in Vietnam, attend the announcement of several Microsoft Vietnam events, and especially engage with Vietnamese students at a major university in Hanoi.
