Simply visit www.edu.net.vn, click your mouse, and candidates will have access to all the necessary data regarding the admissions process for 2006. This is one of the conveniences provided by the newly launched online admissions portal by the Ministry of Education and Training. Mr. Quách Tuấn Ngọc, Director of the Ministry’s Information Technology Center, shared insights with VnExpress.

Could you explain the benefits candidates will receive from the new admissions portal?
– Previously, information about admissions was communicated through printed materials and postal services. Due to the printing schedule of the book “What You Need to Know About University and College Admissions,” candidates would only receive admissions information by March 5-10. After the Lunar New Year this year, for the first time, the Ministry of Education and Training established the admissions portal, available as the website www.edu.net.vn. This provides candidates with an additional means of accessing information beyond traditional printed materials.
With the admissions portal, candidates simply need to go online, click their mouse, and they will find all the necessary data. For instance, if a candidate wants to learn about the medical field, the system will list all the schools offering programs in this area. If candidates are interested in how many schools are in An Giang province, they just need to search for An Giang and click.
Besides the ability to look up school and program codes, what other features does the admissions portal offer, sir?
– The system will assist candidates in filling out the “Exam Registration” form, helping to avoid unnecessary mistakes. If candidates input data incorrectly, the system will display an error message. In the future, if approved by the Ministry, candidates will be able to print their application forms directly from the system, have them stamped for verification by their high school or local authority, and submit them to the provincial admissions board. However, candidates will still need to purchase a standardized application folder.
In recent admissions seasons, candidates have been most concerned about the registration process for their desired choices. How will this issue be addressed?
– The system will provide information to support candidates in making decisions about their choice of major and school by analyzing score distributions and admission scores each year. This is a data repository from the Information Technology Center that archives the four recent “common” exams.
Additionally, the system can help candidates find second and third-choice options, which often carry risks due to a lack of complete information on each school’s admission process. For example, if a school announces openings for second-choice candidates, students may draft their applications and monitor the admission score trends.
This score trend will fluctuate similarly to the stock market. Candidates will have a unique password to register at one school; when they switch to another school, the system will automatically remove their name from the previous registration. I want to emphasize that the admissions portal only provides additional information channels for candidates regarding the admission process, while the final decision rests with the candidates themselves.
However, not all candidates can access the Internet. Some argue that the portal may create an advantage for urban students. What are your thoughts on this?
– No policy or tool can fully meet the needs of all regions. Areas without the means will still have to rely on traditional printing methods. However, candidates can go to district towns or visit post offices and cultural centers to access the Internet for information. The Information Technology Center is researching a simplified version to be distributed on CD.
To implement the portal, data must be accurate and complete. How has this issue been addressed?
– I believe that schools and departments of education need to recognize the benefits of participating in data entry to ensure the information is authentic. Each university, college, and education department will be assigned a username and password to access their school’s information page, allowing them to input and edit data themselves.
