You will soon be able to perform surgery in a virtual emergency room with a brand-new video game for the Wii gaming system that Nintendo is about to release.
Developed by Atlus, based in California, the game “Trauma Center: Second Opinion” allows players to turn the highly sensitive, optimally designed Wii controller into a scalpel in various “emergency medical situations.”
Additionally, players can use the controller as a defibrillator to revive a patient’s heart if it stops beating in the game.
“The scenarios in the game are very intense,” said Tom Hulett, director of Atlus. “This is the only console game that provides experiences like this.” Trauma Center is currently being showcased at the ongoing E3 exhibition in Los Angeles.
“This will be a great game for those looking to pursue a career in medicine,” Hulett stated. “Of course, it is not intended to completely replace medical schools. I personally wouldn’t let someone perform an appendectomy on me if they had only learned through Trauma Center.”
Scheduled for release in November, “Trauma Center” will coincide with the launch of Nintendo’s new gaming system, the Wii.
