Starting on the evening of October 8, astronomy enthusiasts in Vietnam will have the opportunity to observe the Draconid meteor shower during its peak, provided that weather conditions are favorable.

The Draconid meteor shower occurs when Earth passes through a dust trail left by Comet 21P/Giacobini-Zinner as it travels through our Solar System. This dust ignites upon entering Earth’s atmosphere, creating the bright streaks we refer to as a meteor shower.
According to Space, the peak period of the Draconid meteor shower lasts for 2 days, from October 8 to 9. However, whether or not they can be seen in the sky requires a stroke of luck.
This year, the observing conditions for the meteor shower are relatively favorable, as the Moon’s brightness is below 20%, providing a dark enough night sky for astronomy enthusiasts to observe these fascinating phenomena.
In Vietnam, the Draconid meteor shower can be observed by looking towards the North. The point of origin for this phenomenon lies between the two constellations Ursa Major and Ursa Minor.
This phenomenon can be observed from anywhere, as long as the observation location is free of clouds and the view to the North is unobstructed. No special equipment is needed to observe this event.
The Draconid meteor shower has appeared many times in the past but has been relatively faint in recent years. The years with the highest activity of meteors were 1933 and 1946. In 2011, some locations around the world also observed the Draconid meteor shower.
