The Department of Animal Health (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) announced that the avian influenza outbreak continues to spread to new provinces as of today (December 8). In addition to the 14 provinces still experiencing outbreaks for over 21 days, Quang Tri has also been added to the avian flu map.

The avian influenza outbreak was first detected in a duck farm in Gio Phong Commune, Gio Linh District (Quang Tri) on November 22, resulting in the death of over 500 ducks. The provincial veterinary department has proceeded to cull the entire flock of 5,000 ducks. Test results confirmed a positive case for the H5 avian influenza virus.
In several other localities, such as Son La, Thanh Hoa, and Binh Binh, there have been sporadic reports of poultry deaths in various communes. For instance, yesterday (December 7), avian influenza affected 25 ducks at a farm in Sap Vat Commune, Yen Chau District (Son La), leading to the death of those 25 ducks; the veterinary department has also culled 535 birds. In Hoa Loc Commune, Hau Loc District (Thanh Hoa), the outbreak resulted in the death of 51 chickens and 75 ducks; the province has culled 428 ducks and 51 chickens.
In Ninh Binh, the outbreak occurred in a flock of 400 ducks, resulting in the death of 30 ducks in Gia Phong Commune, Gia Vien District. The veterinary department has culled the entire flock.
Yesterday, Hai Duong Province also culled its last flock of ducks, totaling 78,700 ducks and geese.
Currently, there are 160 communes and wards across 60 districts, towns, and cities in 15 provinces and cities where outbreaks have occurred within the last 21 days, including Bac Ninh, Cao Bang, Hai Duong, Ninh Binh, Phu Tho, Son La, Thai Nguyen, Thanh Hoa, Hai Phong, Vinh Phuc, Quang Ninh, Nghe An, Ha Giang, Yen Bai, and Quang Tri.
Five provinces have not reported any new outbreaks in the past 21 days, including Bac Giang, Hoa Binh, Thai Binh, Hung Yen, and Long An.
Since October 1, approximately 3.148 million poultry have been culled nationwide (including poultry culled in urban areas).
