After a 5-hour surgery at the Pediatric Hospital of Fudan University in Shanghai, on June 23, the heart of 7-year-old Trần Gia Khôn from Shandong was successfully placed inside his chest like any other normal child.

According to his mother, when he was born, there was a tumor protruding about 10 cm from his chest which had a heartbeat, especially pronounced when he cried loudly or crawled quickly; the tumor throbbed even more vigorously. Upon visiting the hospital for examination, it turned out that this was his heart.
The reason for this condition was that the rib cage of the child was underdeveloped, unable to shield the heart. Because the heart was protruding, it was very susceptible to injury, preventing him from engaging in normal activities like other children.
Professor Jia Xin, the head of the surgical department at the hospital and the surgeon who performed the operation, stated that the patient would recover within 48 hours, and in about two weeks he would return to normal, living and studying like any other child.
