The video clip shows a horizon seemingly split between day and night in Mandaue City, Philippines, on October 10th.
One side appears to be illuminated by the glow of sunset, while the other side has fallen into darkness.
Witness Leylan Romarate reported that he captured this scene without using any filters.
Strange phenomenon in the sky.
“There is a straight line right there. It is now day and night. What is this? There are no filters on my phone camera,” Leylan said while recording the clip.
Reflecting on this experience, Leylan noted that it was the first time he had seen the sky like this.
He added: “Many others also saw this, not just me. Is this something natural? I have never seen this happen before.”
The phenomenon where one part of the sky experiences daylight while the other part is in darkness or twilight is caused by the “terminator” or “twilight zone.”
The terminator is the moving line that separates the illuminated or daytime side of a planet from its nighttime side. This division occurs due to the rotation of the planet, creating a gradual transition between day and night known as the twilight zone.
