News from the Department of Animal Health on December 3rd indicates a new outbreak in Phu Tho (test results positive for H5 avian influenza virus). Meanwhile, Hung Yen has not reported any new outbreaks in the past 21 days.
In Phu Tho, from November 22 to 25, 2005, an avian influenza outbreak occurred in 4 poultry farms in Tat Thang commune, Thanh Son district, resulting in the death of 165 ducks. The Animal Health Department has culled 496 chickens and 561 ducks. Test results confirmed the presence of the H5 influenza virus. In contrast, Hung Yen has remained free of outbreaks for the past 21 days.
As of now, nationwide, there are 203 communes and wards across 68 districts in 16 provinces and cities where outbreaks have occurred and have not been free for 21 days, including Bac Giang, Bac Ninh, Cao Bang, Hai Duong, Hoa Binh, Ninh Binh, Phu Tho, Son La, Thai Binh, Thai Nguyen, Thanh Hoa, Hai Phong, Vinh Phuc, Long An, Quang Ninh, and Nghe An.
Among them, Thai Binh, Hoa Binh, and Long An are about to be removed from the “red” list as there have been no new outbreaks for 18 days..
Since October 1st, a total of 2,024,325 poultry have been culled (including poultry culled within urban areas), comprising 831,375 chickens and 897,188 ducks.
In light of the ongoing avian influenza situation, on December 3rd, the leaders of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development conducted inspections to reinforce measures against avian influenza in the provinces of Phu Tho, Vinh Phuc, Quang Ninh, and Thanh Hoa.
On the same day, the Department of Animal Health hosted a delegation from the Ministry of Agriculture of China to discuss the provision of vaccines and the transfer of avian influenza vaccine production technology to Vietnam.
