Students from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, have recently developed a new type of plant that can “glow” when it needs watering – a highly beneficial method for farmers.
Recently, a group of engineering students from Nanyang Polytechnic University in Singapore announced that they have created a plant that signals to humans when it requires watering.
The students stated that they utilized genetic engineering on the plants by incorporating a green fluorescent gene from jellyfish. As a result, the plant will “glow” when it is lacking water.
The development of this genetically modified plant could assist farmers in watering their crops more timely and effectively for their harvests.
