Scientists from Newcastle Hospital (UK) have concluded this after a study on the benefits of playing with dolls for patients with Alzheimer’s disease (a common memory impairment in the elderly that can lead to mental disorders).
The research team found that after 12 weeks of playing with dolls, Alzheimer’s patients showed significant improvement. They communicated better with those around them.
According to the research team, caring for dolls can stimulate the memory of Alzheimer’s patients, helping them recall their roles as parents. Although playing with dolls cannot completely restore memory for Alzheimer’s patients, it does improve their quality of life to some extent.
